Intorq BFK458 manual hand release assemblies are optional accessories used to mechanically release BFK458 spring‑applied brakes when no power is available, for setup, maintenance or emergency movement of the drive.​

Product overview

• The manual hand release mounts directly to the BFK458 brake and allows the brake to be released by actuating a lever or screw mechanism instead of energising the coil.​
• After operation, the release mechanism returns to its base position, so the brake re-engages when the lever is released and/or supply voltage is restored.​

Function and application

• The hand release temporarily lifts the armature plate from the rotor so the shaft can turn freely, while the brake itself remains a fail‑safe, spring‑applied holding or emergency stop brake when not released.​
• Typical uses include manual positioning, freeing jammed machinery, or moving drives during commissioning and service work where electrical release is not possible.​

Design features

• The assembly is designed as a bolt-on option that can also be retrofitted to compatible BFK458 brake sizes, with mounting threads provided in the brake or associated flange.​
• Release screws and joints are arranged so that forces are applied in tension only, and the release travel is limited by a defined clearance between the armature plate and associated hardware.​

Compatibility and options

• Hand release options are available for all BFK458 sizes, subject to design exceptions such as certain tachobrake combinations.​
• On larger sizes, the brake system can be supplied with monitoring of the hand release lever via microswitches for status feedback into the machine control.​

Installation and use notes

• The assembly is fixed to the brake stator or flange using specified threaded holes and screw sets, and must be installed according to the Intorq/Kendrion mounting instructions for the relevant brake size.​
