Schaefflers Cylindrical roller bearings have a single or multiple row rolling element set based on cylindrical rollers. In contrast to the ball, the roller has a larger contact area perpendicular to the roller axis. As a result, it can transmit higher forces, has greater rigidity and allows smaller rolling element diameters under the same load.
The outer rings have rigid ribs on both sides or no ribs, and the inner rings have one or two rigid ribs or are designed without ribs. The cage prevents the cylindrical rollers from coming into contact with each other during rolling. Cylindrical roller bearings can be supplied with or without a cage
Variants of Cylindrical Roller Bearings include:
- Cylindrical roller bearing with cage X-life
- Axial cylindrical roller bearings
- Low-friction cylindrical roller bearings X-life
- High-precision cylindrical roller bearings
- Full-complement cylindrical roller bearing X-life
- Full complement cylindrical roller bearing with snap ring grooves
“Classic” cylindrical roller bearings have extremely high radial load-carrying capacity and high rigidity. In addition to high radial loads, cylindrical roller bearings can also support axial loads if they are used as semi-locating or locating bearings. Whereas radial loads are transferred via the raceways, axial loads are transferred via the rolling element end faces and ribs, which, of course, limits the axial load. This is precisely where Schaeffler gets to work.
Cylindrical Roller Bearings with optimized rib contact
Schaeffler has a solution for every application with the full-complement INA cylindrical roller bearings and the FAG cylindrical roller bearings with cages. Schaeffler have developed a new torus-shaped design (TorusBallig) roller that significantly increases bearing operating life under an axial load. The special curvature of the end faces of this roller enables loads to be distributed across a significantly greater surface area. The curved roller end face increases the size of the contact surface and thus significantly reduces the contact pressure.
Benefits
- The permissible axial load for semi-locating and locating bearings is increased by a factor of 1.5 compared with standard bearings
- Lower bearing temperatures, since the frictional torque under axial load is reduced by up to 50%
- Significantly less wear on the rollers under axial load due to improved lubricant film formation
- Bearings have a longer operating life under axial load
